12.00 Cheltenham
Ryman Stationery Cheltenham Business Club Novices' Chase
(Class 2) (4YO plus)
Winner £10,635
Advice: 2 pts win Solix (6/5 Coral)
Solix: Had a big reputation thanks to high class French form
(Grade 3 winner in convincing style) and didn’t perform without promise on
first UK starts in hindsight; Jumped poorly at Ascot but better as race went
on, so should improve for it; No easy task giving 12lbs to Sam Winner but could
be upto it.
Sybarite: Good over hurdles (Grade 2 second and second in
strong novice hurdle at Kempton); Not been as good over fences, turned over in
easy race on debut before being beaten miles here; Impressive prospects were
infront of him that time but still got to prove he’s a chaser.
Tricky Tree: Rated 121 over hurdles (that thanks to marked
improvement when slamming rivals in Huntngdon handicap hurdle) but not that
good over fences and should be outclassed here.
Sam Winner: Useful form when second on all three French
starts and duly built on that when romping home on first two starts in juvenile
hurdles here last year; Well beaten fourth in Finale Juvenile Hurdle over
Christmas but mighty effort to pass 18 horses in Triumph, shaping as if he
needed step up in trip; Had wind op before chasing but jumped poorly and
likekly to be passed by inferior horse when falling at Exeter, and improvement
needed here.
VERDICT: SOLIX has to give 12lbs to Sam Winner but looked as
if he would improve for his first start chasing when coming home clear from a
next time out winner at Ascot and to be fair to him, he was impressive that
day. Sam Winner has scope for this task but he was lacklustre at Exeter before
falling and more is needed if he’s to land this.
