Racing Today 6th November 2010

A very good start to the Breeders’ Cup, with a 14/1 second, 6/1 third (promoted) and 9/2 placed shot being given on Twitter. Make sure you follow my feed for any changes to the bets (www.keejayov.blogspot.com), and good luck to all involved today!!

The below tips are all advised to a 1 pt win / 0.5 pts each/way stake as follows, as well all know the serious action is coming later today and this is only for interest, although 2 of my 10 to follow are running and I’ll be cheering on Sizing Europe.

Down Royal

JN Wine Champion Chase (2.25) – Anyone who follows the blog will know that I love Sizing Europe dearly and is a one to follow this season but that’s over 2 miles and he didn’t stay a yard of 3 miles last time. He may well be fit enough to reverse form with China Rock but 4/6 about a fresh KAUTO STAR (win) won’t come around too often and he’s well worth taking at the price to outclass his rivals today. China Rock will have to face a fitter Sizing Europe than before but still rates a threat.

Ladbrokes.com Chase (3.00) - A very solid renewal. Whatever happens PANDORAMA (win) is still a horse very much to follow in my eyes but 11/4 is aver fair price about him considering that he has raced and won over the trip as a novice hurdler and over 2m5f last season and has won fresh twice before. The Nightingale is still a “could be anything” horse but he jumped very badly (went right down the back straight) when well beaten behind Mad Max and Somersby in the Manifesto Novices Chase. His win in the Pendil Novices’ Chase was seriously impressive but he does need to be, and will be, better than that today. Osana is a huge threat having had a break as he gets 5 & 7lbs from the top 2 respective at the weights, and he was never far away from the top last season.

Wincanton

totescoop6 Elite Hurdle (Limited Handicap) (Grade 2) (2.10) – Australia Day will love the flat track and will be very hard to catch, while the likes of Tito Bustillo (had excuses for his 2 handicap failures), Ashakzar (back to form and past winner of better races), Nearby(will love a fast pace on here) and American Trilogy (chucked on if back to his best) but I can’t leave BARIZAN (each/way) alone at that price (9/1) given how impressive he was last season off just 146 considering he won a Grade 1 and probably should have won the Triumph. He’ll need to jump much better than when third last month but the first 2 were very priming types and he can do better with a run under his belt.

totetentofollow Rising Stars Novices' Chase (Grade 2) (2.45) - Robisnon Collonges hacked up on his debut over fences and has a big future but WISHFULL THINKING was a very classy hurdler (rated 144; Was going close in Coral Cup when brought down) and is worth another chance after falling at the first on his chasing debut at Aintree especially in receipt of 6lbs from his main rival.

Badger Ales Trophy (Listed Handicap Chase) (3.20) - Niche Market is interesting on his debut for the Champion trainer, and while it’s picking the obvious but going with a runner from his yard but 5 wins in 11 years is impressive for such a race and MEANUS DANDY (each/way) should strip fitter for his reappearance run and Ian Popham is well worth the 5lbs claim.
There are a couple of decent looking races at Sandown the juvenile hurdle with Douatulo taking on the very useful flat recruit Balerina, who must be a big threat in receipt of all the weight if he’s ready to run and jump today. Pepe Simo is another good horse but both are too short and the races are best watched.

Recommendations (all to small stakes)

2.25 Down Royal - Kauto Star (win)

3.00 Down Royal – Pandorama (win)

2.10 Wincanton – Barizan (each/way)

2.45 Wincanton – Whisfull Thinking (win)

3.20 Wincanton – Meanus Dandy (each/way)
