Football betting blog - Tues 9th November 2010

So much has happened since I last wrote a football blog. Liverpool are now out of the relegation zone, Chelsea have only a 2 point lead at the top, Man United have begun to find form and City have hit a rough patch, the recovery of which they must now continue after a 2-0 win over West Brom against, of all teams, Manchester United.

We are on a real hot streak thanks to the Breeders' Cup, and that's a bag of worms that's set to be opened in another separate blog.

STOKE may have lost four on the bounce in the Premier League, five of their last 11 league games at the Britannia Stadium and have the worst 1st half record in the Premiership, but that’s not a fair reflation on a side who have had some dubious referring decisions (should have had a goal allowed against Everton) and have played twice against Tottenham, plus Arsenal, Bolton and Manchester United of late.
Loss at the Stadium of Light aside, Stoke have looked solid in defeat to Bolton Wanderers, Manchester United and Everton, and have seen some dubious officiating count against them in recent weeks.

Birmingham are not exactly heading here in better form though. They’ve won just once in their last nine Premier League games – a sequence of results that sees McLeish's side just two points above their rivals on Tuesday night. Both teams are lacking in firepower but the percentage call is to back a Stoke side who love playing at the fierce atmosphere of the Britannia stadium.

Spurs v Sunderland is a much tighter affair. Of the 104 meetings between these sides, Spurs have won 40, Sunderland 37, with 27 of the contests finishing in a draw. Tottenham have scored a total of 148 goals against the Black Cats, while Sunderland have netted 139, giving this fixture an average goals to game figure of 2.8, giving the idea that a poke at over 2.5 goals might not be the worst idea ever, especially with Asamoah Gyan is set to start back-to-back games for the Black Cats after scoring a brace against Stoke City at the weekend.

Speaking of another stat based bet, Tottenham have conceded the opening goal in their last seven Premier League games, and with Sunderland not being mugs of any sort, back them to score first at a tasty looking price.
