Europa League Last 32 - 1st Legs

Sparta (4) v Chelsea (10/11)

Chelsea’s noted struggles in the midwinter have seen them slip back in the league and nearly fall out of the FA Cup, but bookmakers may have underestimated their chances in the Europa League given the quality at the club. The Londoners’s problems have come entirely from defence (late goals cost them 4 points in the space of a week recently) and they have the makings of a very decent bet at 10/11, although the same price for over 2.5 goals looks to be good value as well. The Londoners last 6 have all had 3 goals or more and that looks to be the way to go with a strong side including Hazard and Mata named.

Advice: 3 pts over 2.5 goals (21/20 Bet Victor)

Tottenham (3/4) v Lyon (9/2)

This has all the makings of a heavyweight tie on paper but Tottenham have lost just two of their last 18 matches and take this competition very seriously. With Lyon resurgent this season compared to other campaigns – they won 7 straight league titles in France in the 2000’s – they carry a threat, but they’ve had a miserable 2013 so far with two 3-1 defeats and Spurs can expose their deficiencies defensively.

Advice: 1 pt Tottenham (3/4 general)
