Ireland can overcome their no1 recent bogey team in Wales
and kickstart their title challenge in style with a win at the Millennium
Stadium. Wales have gotten the better of Ireland mentally and physically with
four straight wins over the men in Green, but circumstances have aligned for
rather than against them in those encounters and today’s clash has an
altogether different feel.
Not forgetting that Ireland have won 4 of the last 6
matchups in this competition played here, one of those two successes saw Wales’s
profit at the hands of some extremely generous referring when winning 19-13
here – Mike Phllips’s try should never have counted and the desperation for an
easy conversion cost them late on, and while Wales played the better rugby in
their 21-23 win at the Aviva last year, they needed a last minute Halfpenny
penalty to take the points. Since last year’s Championship Wales have not won a
single game and have let in 20 points on seven occasions, alarming considering
that three of those games were at home. Ireland had their own min crisits
during the Autumn but come here with key internationals ready for action
upfront and the new wing pairing of Simon Zebo and Craig Gilroy for extra
threat, and look the value here.
Advice:
4 pts Ireland (13/10 Coral)
