The 6 Nations produced a record low of tries last year but
some top attacking talent showed international rugby hasn’t become all about
the penalties and scrums, and it might be worth backing another start to shine
on the wing in Wesley Fofana. More a centre by trade, Fofana scored 4 tries in
his first four 6 Nations games last year, being banked only in the 16-9 defeat
against Wales. That was his only game on the wing last year, but there’s every
reason to believe that France are a better balanced side this year and he
scored on the wing against Australia, leading one to believe that if he can get
the ball from the French pack – one of the best in Europe – he should get
chances with Fedreik Michalak performing as well as he’s ever been back in the
side after a long absence. The 10/1 for him is very tempting but Bet365 will
pay 9/1 for 4 places ¼ the odds, which has to be the obvious selection given
that there has been a tie for first place 5 times since 2004. If you want an
all out wing Chris Ashton – who scored against Scotland and has also won the
award for the top try scorer at the World Cup – fits the bill even at a best
price of 11/2 with Paddy Power. In the years 05, 07, 09 and 2011 the award has
been won or shared by an English outside back, and with a home game against
Italy to come Ashton should get plenty of chances to impress. Along the same
lines, Simon Zebo deserves some serious consideration having already scored for
Ireland, who possess a superb record against England at Croke Park and a high
points scoring record against Italy in Rome.
Advice
1 pt each/way Wesley Fofana (9/1 Bet365)
1 pt Chris Ashton (11/2 Paddy Power)
1 pt Simon Zebo (8/1 Ladbrokes)
