Williamhill.com Novices' Chase (Registered As The Wayward
Lad Novices' Chase) (Grade 2) (Class 1)
(4YO plus)
Winner £19,932
Dodging Bullets: Useful novice hurdler, showing much more
promise as juvenile before disappointing second season with that status (won
minor Grade 2 and then third in Christmas Hurdle) last year; Two wins over
fences from as many starts, particularly impressive at Cheltenham in Grade 2
latest; Ground possibly a worry for him here but not put a foot wrong so far and
can go well.
Bin End: Four time winner over hurdles but didn’t look like
he was enjoying chasing on Ludlow chasing debut.
Grandouet: Very high class hurdler who was going well when
falling in this year’s champion but not run to the same level since and getting
the worst of the argument when he fell at last on chasing debut at Sandown;
Much better when second in Henry VII Novices’ to Hinterland there and a leading
player if jumping as well once again.
VERDICT: Essentially a tricky and intriguing match between
two chasers who have already shown a strong standard of form. The absence of
the promising Valdes robs this race of a lot of promise and leaves punters with
a tricky matchup between GRANDOUET, who hasn’t taken to fences as one would
have hoped but has been given an ideal opportunity to break his duck over
fences getting 6lbs from his main form rival Dodging Bullets, who should prove to be a tough
challenge for him following two impressive wins.
