The Cheltenham Novice scene is always changed over the
December period immeasurably and one of the leading fancies for the big novice
events faces a tough test today at Limerick. Prominent in the betting for both
the Neptune and Albert Bartlett, Faugheen is one of the most exciting prospects
for many looking forward and the style of all three of his successes has been
very taking but he faces by far this toughest test today in the Liberty
Insurance Novice Hurdle at Limerick (1.35).
A comfortable winner at Punchestown and Navan, the Mullins
charge is 8/15 to make it three from three over hurdles but has raced
exclusively on good ground a world away from the hock deep surface that
Limerick has provided over Christmas and not faced anything in the same class as
Azorian, who looks to have been crying out for a step upto 3 miles based on his
efforts at 2m4f this season. A winner by 24 lengths on his seasonal debut at
Cork, he was brushed aside as favourite by the extremely promising Apache
Stronghold in the Monksfield Novice Hurdle but was still a clear second there
despite being done for toe and he lost nothing when second in a match to
Champion Court winner Briar Hill at Navan recently in a “race” that would have
suited neither and despite not looking like the easiest ride, has achieved a
level of confirmed form that no other contender has yet to reach. Getting 3lbs from Faugheen, the 4/1 for him
looks too big to cause an upset.
Advice
1 pt win Azorian, 1.35 Limerick (4/1 general)
