Betfred Goals Galore Challow Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1)
(Class 1) (4YO plus)
Winner £19,932
Advice: 1 pt win Oscar Rock (5/2 general)
Captain Cutter: Useful in some strong bumpers but much
better hurdling already, wide margin winner at Kempton on his debut (justified
long odds on price) and followed up easily enough last time at Market Rasen;
Needs to improve his jumping and obvious that this a giant step up but plenty
to like.
Creepy: Served only to make Kings Palace look extremely
impressive when winning Grade 2 at Cheltenham following 18 length second to
that one over 3 miles the time before, getting the better of reopposing
Timesremembered in sustained stretch duel getting 7lbs; Looks a promising
prospect but now 7lbs worse off for one length here.
Kaki De La Pree: In form improver (second to Kings Palace in
bumper looks very good now) who was very good value for latest win at Carlsisle
(3m1f) off mark of 127 after Chepstow win on hurdling debut; Drops in trip for
a much harder task but has to be respected nevertheless.
Oscar Rock: Very useful bumper performer who slammed listed
opponents here over 2m1f by eight lengths before even more impressive hurdling
debut at Wetherby; Beaten at long odds on latest but that form instantly
franked by winner going onto win at Cheltenham next time out; Return to soft
ground (2-2) might be the oracle for him and should go well.
Shantou Magic: Not much on show in one bumper run but has
won two starts over obstacles by 21 lengths, romping home on the bridle at
Market Rasen despite penalty; Clearly enjoys a test and sure to progress more
for all that this obviously a world away from races he won.
Timesremembered: Didn’t cut much ice on one bumper start or
maiden hurdle win but looks transformed upped to this trip in the Persian War
Novices’ Hurdle at Chepstow; Couldn’t follow up in Cheltenham Grade 2 latest
but giving 7lbs to Creepy only thing that stopped him from landing second
Graded hurdle and can go close.
VERDICT: A top notch renewal with 6 quality prospects. OSCAR
ROCK might be the best of them back on soft ground, with Timesremembered likely
to reverse form with Creepy and a worthy second favourite although any one of
the 6 could be a worthy winner.
