2.00 Kempton
Kauto Star Novices' Chase (In Memory Of Nigel Clark)
(Formerly The Feltham Novices' Chase) (Grade 1) (Class 1) (4YO plus)
Winner £39,865
Advice: 4 pts win Just a Par (8/13 Hills)
Annacotty: Made up for disappointment when favourite for
Exeter handicap chase when coming right clear to win here over C&D but
seems to be developing and on and off profile and others here have stronger
claims as well.
Buachahill Alainn: Behind Just a Par in Sefton Novices
Hurdle but one just the one chasing start in 5 runs since (left infront four
out at Worecester) and ran amiss latest; Needs to step forward to get involved
here.
Green Flag: Unbeaten in three cashing, much improved at Ayr
and Newcastle latest, left clear last time out but also strong at the finish
when a good winner off 132
Just A Par: Beaten on first two runs for Paul Nicholls over
hurdles last year, second in Sefton Novice Hurdle, and disappointing on chasing
debut at Chepstow, although he looked an extremely promising chaser when
beating Third Intention by 14 lengths at Newbury in the Worcester’ Novices
Chase last time out, never looking likely to get passed once he hit the front;
Can take further step forward with ground not likely to be a massive problem.
Third Intention: Virus around the yard is worrying but
useful type at the least as he showed last season and ground no worry; Had to
give 7lbs last time when said to be under the weather to Just A Par but came
off well beaten and will need to have improved to get on level terms.
VERDICT: Much continued heavy rain turned what was decent
ground into a testing surface but that shouldn’t bother JUST A PAR, who looked
an exceptional prospect when beating an admittedly below par Third Intention at
Newbury latest. Green Flag is improving enough to be taken seriously even
though he needs to improve to get involved.
