Champions League 2013 - Tuesday 5th November

Copenhagen (23/10) v Galatasaray (11/8)

The loss of goalkeeper Fernando Muslera (broken toe) and midfielder Wesley Sneijder (thigh) are two big blows for Galatasaray as they attempt to beat Copenhagen in Denmark. The hosts didn’t get a sniff in Turkey and Gala’s European experience – including a late draw at Juventus – should stand them in good stead for all that those two absences are a big worry.

Advice: 1 pt Galatasaray (11/8 general)

Juventus (7/5) v Real Madrid (11/5)

Juventus’s results in the Champions League have been desperately disappointing so far but they’ve been miles better than the results suggest and having found their form, they are more than capable of putting themselves back into the last 16 running. Juventus outplayed Madrid with 11, and then 10 men, and had it not been for a nightmarishly inept showing from Giorgio Chiellini then they may have walked away with all three points. Having won three games to nil on the bounce since, Antonio Conte’s men look ready to exact revenge on a Madrid side that has been remarkably open in defence at times this season.

Advice: 2 pts Juventus (7/5 Stan James, Bet365)

Manchester City (1/5) v CSKA (20)

Manchester City’s hard fought win in Moscow in the news for all the wrong reasons but they can all but put themselves in the last 16 with a comprehensive win at home. City have won by 2 goals in 9 of their 10 victories so far this season and can go further than that here infront of their own fans, where they’ve been so impressive domestically.

Advice: 3 pts Manchester City -2  (7/5 Bet365)

Olympiakos (11/8) v Benfica (12/5)

Olympiakos and Benfica went head to head in a swimming pool in Portugal last time and they can put Benfica’s progression for the last 16 in doubt with a home win. The Greeks outplayed Benfica and would have gone 2-0 up on playable surface, while they were robbed of 2 points by an incorrectly given corner.

Advice: 1 pt win Olympiakos (11/8 general)

PSG (1/8) v Anderlecht (9)

PSG should seal the group winning deal against an Anderlecht side that has looked hopelessly overmatched in most of their games in the group, never moreso than when they were trashed 5-0 in Belgium last time. To be fair to the Belgians, they were attacking (they had two more shots on target than the Parisians) last time but the gulf in class should be too deep.

Advice: 1 pt PSG -2 (evs general)

Plzen (25) v Bayern (2/11)

Bayern Munich should be good enough to all but seal their group at Plzen. Guariola’s men have adapted well to his style of play and should be able to create enough openings to leave with three points. The hosts lost 3-0 to Manchester City and a similar result looks on the cards once again.

Advice: 1 pt Munich -2 (13/10 Paddy Power)

Real Socidedad (13/8) v Manchester United (17/10)

Manchester United were lucky to beat Sociedead on the last matchday and haven’t been much improved since. While Sociedad haven’t been reaching their standards of last season, it’s also true that United have suffered the same slump and a draw looks the best runner here.

Advice: 1 pt Draw (9/4 Stan James)

Shakhtar (13/10) v Leverkusen (13/5)

Shakhtar do most of their best work at home but are hard to trust at 13/10 with the side that has impressed so many in Europe three seasons ago now well and truly broken up. Leverkusen thrashed the Ukranians in Germany last time out so hard that they have to be considered as value in the match outcomes market, but even more likely looks to be goals.

Advice: 1 pt Over 2.5 goals (19/20 Sportingbet)
