3.10 Longchamp
Qatar Prix Foy (Group 2) (Class 1) (4YO plus)
Winner €74,373 - 9 run
Advice: 6 pts win Orfevre (8/11 general)
Mandour: Could potentially be suited by the step up in trip,
being out of a Vermille winner; Improving judged on the form of his Gala Stakes
win
Very Nice Name: Progressing at rate of knots in Qatar over
the winter and took third behind Gentildonna and St Nicolas Abbey, but
disappointing on European debut, although that forgiven (thrown in at deep end
for King George); Fourth in Deavuille Group 2 latest and interesting to see if
he goes on from that.
Now We Can: Serial winner, taking Prix Lord Seymour over
C&D and then following up in Group company when landing Grand Prix De
Chantilly; Well behind Tres Blue latest however and upped in grade seriously
again here.
Stellar Wind: Impressive the last twice in conditions
contests at 10 and 12 furlongs in Tokyo, but only won four of his 11; Has won
on soft ground but hard to fancy too strongly.
Dunaden: Ever consistent globetrotter, second the last twice
in Coronation Cup and Grand Prix De Saint Cloud; Behind Very Nice Name in UAE
but may reverse that form today; Won on soft ground but not sure that it or
slowly run race suits and looks set for place.
Orfevre: One of the world’s top turf performers and stamped
his class on this last year before running screamer in actual event, going
clear of field before mixture of ground and less than focused final effort saw
him fall victim to Solemia last year.
Going Somewhere: Group 1 form and plenty of it in Argentina,
but twice and beaten favourite after landing Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini and
not easy to asses positively in that light.
VERDICT: ORFEVRE, if fit and well, should be able to take
this despite his less than perfect attitude and rates one of the main players
in what’s looking to be a strong arc this year. Nothing should be able to take
him.
