2 pts win Carrigmorna King, 2.05 Newbury (6/4 Ladbrokes,
Paddy Power, Skybet)
There are a lot of strong chances and good horses running
today but Phillip Hobbs is having an excellent time of things at the moment and
his Carrigmorna King can get off the mark under rules at Newbury, and may offer
the best value chance. A point to point winner in April, he ran an excellent race
on his hurdling debut when beaten 13 lenghts behind Prospect Wells and All The
Aces, both of whom are amongst the best novice hurdlers seen this season (it’s
clear that Prospect Wells was unwell when he trailed in a lacklustre fourth in
the Tolworth Hurdle last time out).
He was beaten good
way behind Broadbackbob here again but even that form stands up fairly well as
the winner had previously won nicely at Ascot and the testing ground may not have
suited him, and his second to Salubrious in a good novice hurdle at Taunton was
much more like it.
He faces some decent opposition again such as Shernando
(rated 91 on the flat after winning twice in succession), who makes his debut
for Nicky Henderson, and Claret Cloak, who showed promise when following up his
wide margin win at Wincanton with a Listed second at Ascot on soft.
