Advice: 2.5 pts win Hidden Cyclone (10/11 general)
Sir Des Champs: French import who was unbeaten over hurdles,
having won well at Navan before impressive win at the Cheltenham Festival,
having looked beaten before running on late to grab the prize at the line; Two
from two over fences, jumping with zest on his debut before getting a little
lucky when game mare ran out two out (had him in trouble) and while no doubting
his talent, this another tough test giving 5lbs in weight to all of this field.
Donnas Palm: Donnas Palm: The best of these and a very
consistent sort over hurdles, winning his usual Grade 2 last season; In no way
set to win when left clear at Wexford and then beaten by Four Commanders &
also into handicap company.
Fists Of Fury: First chase win when getting the better of
talented but temperamental runner up at Wetherby; Ran a poor race at Cheltenham
when fourth behind Join Together at Cheltenham.
Hidden Cyclone: Unbeaten on all but one start, and that
behind two top class sorts (both have won since multiple times) and made good
debut over fences when jumping well at Leopardstown (fourth won since) and
should make into a very good chaser this season.
VERDICT: HIDDEN CYCLONE has always had the makings of a
chaser and did nothing to dispel that with a promising win over the Christmas
period, a run for which he should actually improve. Sir Des Champs is a serious
rival to him, although he has to give 5lbs today and that may swing the balance
in his favour.
