1.35 Gowran
John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle (Grade 2) (5YO plus)
Winner €26,000
Advice: 3 pts Voler La Vedtte (4/7 general)
Zaidpour: Seemed to have the world at his feet when taking
Royal Bond with consummate ease, but bubble burst after that even if he did
show far better form in defeat afterwards; Has been found two easy
opportunities and won as demanded, so interesting to see how he fares stepped
up in trip against a quality rival.
Benash: Useful horse who’s a level below this sort of
company, as emphasised by his own runs in defeat to Mikael D’Haugenet and
Zaidpour; Outclassed.
Chicago Grey: Stellar novice season was capped with victory
in the National Hunt Chase at the festival, after which he’s disappointed by
high standards of earlier; Presumably back over hurdles for a confidence
booster or purely to preserve handicap mark.
Voler La Vedette: Gained a hugely deserved first Grade 1
when running out ready winner of Hatton’s Grace, with 3 and ¾ lengths to spare
over Mourad, but far more impressive when giving said rival a far heavier
beating on worse terms at Leopardstown; That form is by far the most solid in
this event.
VERDICT: It would be a surprise if the finish concerned
anyone other than Zaidpour and VOLER LA VEDETTE. Willie Mullins’s charge is
fascinating contender stepped upto three miles and can boast a lot of strong
form, but his two races this season have been weak in comparison to Voler La
Vedette’s romps, and he could struggle to concede 7lbs to the mare.
