2.35 Newmarket (July)
german-thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes (Fillies Group 3) (Class 1) (2YO only)
Winner £22,708
Pick: Khor Sheed (win)
Al Madina: Driven out to draw away on debut at Carlisle, ending up a convincing winner; Well beaten on first try into Group company at Ascot last time and this no easier although not disgraced.
Clinical: 7/4 favourite when making highly promising debut in 7f maiden at Doncaster last month, cruising up to challenge before knuckling down well to get better of Dubawi Gulf (form upheld in strong looking maiden at Glorious Goodwood); Well worth try in this grade and should go well.
Crying Lightening: Only just got up winning Leicester maiden on debut and shown better form since, coming sixth to Memory and third to Lily Again (possibly not as good last previous effort) in 7f listed race at Sandown 16 days ago; Her best level sets a useful standard here to can be expected to take a hand.
Elkamait: Finally broke maiden at fourth attempt when making all to land Yarmouth maiden by fairly wide margin, but looks exposed and other surely better here.
Emma’s Gift: First on her side in the Albany, form which entitles her to take a big hand in this but has dropped below that level since, doing best of those held up when fourth in Nursery here last time out; Looks exposed on recent runs.
Fork Handles: Very takingly bred filly who should improve with experience (by Doyen out of Natalie Jay) so possibly surprise to see her win 4 runner race on debut; Never nearer fourth in listed race last time out so will need to improve a lot to take serious hand here.
Khor Sheed: Showed promise on taking debut and confirmed that when stepping up to take listed event here last time out, scoring with something in hand; Form of that race been upheld since by third and major chance here, as she’s not done improving yet.
Musharakaat: Fillies’ Mile entry who created good impression when winning 13 runner AW maiden easily travelling well out wide and quickening ahead in final 2f; Sure to improve but that maiden only moderate and this is a tough spot.
White Moonstone: Made a decent debut when getting better of more experienced Florestans Match at Ascot, coming like a train down stands rail; Entitled to improve but runner up drifted into middle and rest of field haven’t backed up the form since.
VERDICT: A race which usually throws up a good filly. It’s made even more fascinating by the presence of once raced once winning fillies, Critical, White Moonstone, and Mushkarakaat. They could all improve again but KHOR SHEED looked well up to Group class when landing a listed race here last time and could improve again. Crying Lightening rates a major danger.
