Newbury
1.30 – Godolphin’s Saamid is just one of several interesting newcomers here, but both Yair Hill and BUCKLAND (win) showed clear signs of ability on debut and with the Brian Meehan yard flying, he’s taken to go close here.
2.00 - Cocohatchee has three runs under his belt but he fluffed a good chance at Epsom last time and despite setting a decent standard, he’s there to be shot at and this looks booked for a newcomer. It’s a clear sign of the regard that the Hannon yard hold GENERAL SYNOD (win) in when he is one of only 3 horses from the yard (the other 2 being Libaranno and King Torus) and he should go well here .It would be no supirse to see Treasure Beach go in though, being a $1,000,000 yearling by Preakness winner Bernardini out of Fillies' Mile winner Crystal Music. Bred in the purple, and interestingly was also entered in Saturday's listed race here at the 6-day stage. Others to note are Colebrooke, a 90,000 gns yearling by Shamardal and half-brother to smart winners at up to 1¼m who of obvious interest,Royal Lodge entry Red Eyes, and Fillie’s Mile entry Traffic Sister (as the name suggests, a half-brother to Traffic Guard.
3.45 (Listed St Hugh’s Stakes) - Marlinka was drawn on the wrong side in the Queen Mary and is going to be very hard to beat if getting the lead (even under a penalty) but HOORAY (win) achieved a lot more when third in the Cherry Hinton last time and if coping with the drop to 5f will take all the beating. Sweet Cecily represents the most powerful yard when it comes to juveniles and is sure to like 5f more than the 6f last time, not to mention that this is a drop in class for her.
4.55 - Dark Promise has a mouthwatering pedigree being out of a Lancashire Oaks runner up and being a half sister to Sharmadal, she’s sure to go well. Land And Sea and Kashmirana should both go well, while Piano will improve from debut the overall vote goes to PERSONIFIED (each/way), who actually ran very well in a good but slowly run maiden for Yarmouth standards last time out and should go closer here.
Newmarket (July)
6.35 - With several well-bred debutants on show from powerful yards, this isn’t a race to get massively stuck into. That said, there has been steady support for FRANKEL (win) all morning, and you’d have to think that he should go close, holding a Royal Lodge, Dewhurst and Derby entry being a half brother to Bullet Train. Next best is GENIUS BEAST (each/way), a first foal of Irish Oaks and Prix Vermeille winner Shawanda.
