Heineken Cup - Matchday 1

Connacht (9) v Saracens (1/8)

Saracens’s unbeaten start to the season has been one of the most impressive anywhere in Europe and they should take a hefty win from Galway tonight. A strong side has been named for this clash, including Owen Farrell and wings Chris Ashton and David Strettle, and they should be able to go close to covering a 13 point handicap at the least despite likely strong home resistance.

Advice: 1 pt Saracens -13 (10/11 Coral)

Toulouse (1/40) v Zebre (33)

Toulouse can feel very confident about qualification and a heavy home win against Zebre should be a formality, given that no side it yet to get within single figures of Guy Noves’s side on their own turf, and Paddy Power’s points line of 43 can be broken.

Advice: 2 pts Toulouse to score more than 42.5 points (5/6 Paddy Power)

Ulster (8/15) v Leicester (2)

Ulster’s shaky start to the season has been followed by three strong wins and they prepared well for the toughest test of the season so far against a Leicester side that is tracking the early Premiership pace nicely, albeit with some softish fixtures and an away win at an Exeter side that didn’t turn up. This, with Leicester bringing an extremely strong pack and Ulster infront of their Ravenhill faithful looks best left.
