Prix Jean-Luc Legardere (Grand Criterium) 2011

1.55 Longchamp
Prix Jean-Luc Legardere (Grand Criterium) (Group 1) (Class 1)  (2YO only)
Winner €207,164
Advice: 1 pt Sofast w/o Dabirsim (13/8 Paddy Power)

Owner detailsAmerican Devil: Impressive winner of first two races, but beaten by Sofast and Mac Row after trying to make all in Group 3 trial for this race and hard to see him reversing form today; Others preferred.

Owner detailsVeneto: Still a maiden after 4 starts and out of his depth.

Owner detailsFort Bastion: Well-liked and made a most taking debut when second to well liked Mezmaar in Haydock maiden (form not worked out ) and bettered that when nicely clear of rest behind Maybe in Chesham Stakes; Disappointing when favourite for Group 2 and while bouncing back in Acomb Stakes, makes little appeal here.

Owner detailsSalure: Habitual front runner; Went well clear (10 lengths) when caught late on at San Siro in heavy ground over a mile, having bolted up on today’s conditions (good, over 7 furlongs) previously; This likely to be too hard for him.

Owner detailsDabirsim: Unbeaten in 4 and confirmed himself the leading French juvenile with dazzling Prix Morny win, going right away after cruising thoughought the race; 7f might even improve him and the one to beat.

Owner detailsMac Row: Looked good on first two wins before  then being well beaten in Prix Robert Papin and again in small Deauville 5f listed event; No shame in defeat to Sofast last time but will do well to reverse form.

Owner detailsSofast: Impressive in maiden and clear the occasion had come too soon when fluffing start for Prix Morny; Looked like an improved horse when winning over C&D with ease (had Mac Row and American Devil beaten) and should go well here.

VERDICT: 9/2 with Hills is tempting that Sofast manages to improve and give DABIRSIM a real race, but it’s very hard to see the places being reversed today. Cristophe Ferland’s star colt was going away at the finish when winning the Morny and the best value may lie in backing Freddy Head’s colt without the favourite, a market you’d imagine he’d be odds against in.
