Burj Khalifa Challenge Stakes 2011

2.05 Newmarket
Burj Khalifa Challenge Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1)  (3YO plus)
Winner £45,368
Advice: 2 pts Chachamaidee w/o Strong Suit (evs Paddy Power)

Owner detailsStrong Suit: Desperately disappointing in Greenham on return but has refound his juvenile form thanks to a breathing operation as he showed when winning Jersey Stakes before close Prix Jean Prat third; Easy Lennox Stakes win last time possibly even better and should go close here.

Owner detailsAcross The Rhine: Been in good form this year, Group 3 win at Curragh the highlight; Last two efforts on ground that didn’t suit him but in the end this surely too tough.

Owner detailsGiant Sandman: Has five wins to his name in Norway and a 6f Listed race in Sweden to his name, all races won with a degree of ease; Nothing as competitive as this though.

Owner detailsLechevalier Choisi: Made the frame in Listed races at York and Fairyhouse when forcing or leading for most of the way, but formline through Doncaster Rover sees him well held by Strong Suit here today.

Owner detailsChachamaidee: Good sort; Has found new level of form this year for being fitted with a hood, coming a good second in the Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot and ran out a really easy winner of competitive looking Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood; Seconds to Alanza and Saphresa are extremely strong form and should go really well here.

Owner detailsElshabakiya: Been highly tried since Second to Dubawi Gold in 7f AW listed race on reappearance in March; Finishing fast in Listed race at Ascot last Saturday; Needs much more to be winning this.

Owner detailsMaqaasid: Showed immense promise on debut and realized that very quickly when winning Queen Mary Stakes in course record time, but failed to build on that as 2; Trained on in no uncertain terms this season, bettering her trial third when filling same position in 1,000 Guineas (could have gotten better trip); Never in contention thanks to draw in French Guineas and Falmouth was always going to be hard with no pace, while she got no room in Oak Tree Stakes; Long break since though and likely she still wouldn’t have beaten

Owner detailsRimth: Very fast 2yo who showed she’d trained on when a clear cut winner of Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury, and probably didn’t get home in French 1,000 Guineas; Run well in trying circumstances since but others present more solid options.

VERDICT: Strong Suit is the one to beat based on his Lennox win but CHACHAMAIDEE was just as impressive when winning the Oak Tree at the same meeting and should push him close getting 5lbs. Whatever happens, she looks a great bet in a market without Strong Suit.
