2.30 York
Tattersalls Musidora Stakes (Fillies' Group 3) (Class
1) (3YO only)
Winner £36,900
Pick: Barefoot Lady (win)
Amazing Beauty: Bred to do better this year, not seen until
December 2010 on debut but evidently well liked (sent off at evens) when fourth
then; Made amends when keeping on well (longer trip suited) at Dundalk and
respected.
Arizona Jewel: Shaped as if all the ability was there on
only run at two and already far better on reappearance, taking route 4/5 wide
but still convincingly on top at finish in decent maiden for sure at Sandown;
In form trainer has exceptional record in this, so one to be feared.
Barefoot Lady: Came right away on debut despite needing
plenty of stoking, achieved a lot more when winning at St Ledger festival next,
doing job just as nicely, and not disgraced when third and second in
Group/Listed contests at backend of last year; Feisty winner of Nell Gwyn on
return and further improvement when fifth in 1,000 Guineas latest; Could make a
bold bid over the trip.
Joviality: Only lost out for lack of experience when third
in Newmarket maiden but hard to know if she bettered that form when going down
by 1/4 of a length to previous winner Naqshabban at Sandown latest; Too keen
for own good early and cannot afford that here (small field again).
Whey Sauce: Travelled like the winner when fourth on debut
to Mantoba (form, winner apart has generally worked out), so disappointing that
she was so poor next time (very keen); Worth another chance but may really
struggle here.
VERDICT: Notable that 6 of the last 10 winners have had a
prior run that season for a trial which could go a long way to giving us a
genuine Oaks contender. Henry Cecil’s record in this and recent form will mean
that Arizona Jewel will be well supported, but it may pay to get with BAREFOOT
LADY after an excellent effort in the 1,000 Guineas last time out, form which
promises to see her on the premises if this hasn’t come too soon.
