Chester May Meeting - Dee Stakes

2.20 Chester
Addleshaw Goddard Dee Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1)  (3YO only)
Winner £28,385

Pick: Glen’s Diamond (win)

Glen’s Diamond: Stepped up from maiden win at land Nursery at two (two wins from three starts); made it three wins from four starts when winning with off mark of 90 in 1m1f Musselburgh handicap on seasonal debut last month; Despite having fair bit to find on ratings no surprise if he was to prove group horse, so highly respected.

Laajooj: Stepped up on debut for Godolphin when winning 1m Newbury maiden last month; form took a knock when the third was beaten at odds-on but better to come for trainer in good form; That said, didn’t look entirely straightforward under pressure and this step up in trip not certain to suit.

Maqaraat: Promise on debut in a maiden last backend but stepped up markedly on that when second in useful 1m2f maiden at the Craven meeting; Winner (in Listed company) and third have won since so should go well.

The Paddyman: Bumped into a good one first time out in Lord Of The Stars (seventh in Molecomb Stakes) but different horse next time out when he won by an unextended 8 lengths; Held head high in group company since and creditable run in Free Handicap last time out although new trip an unknown.

Tinkertown: Clear-cut winner off 90 in 1m Kempton handicap on seasonal debut; Readily beaten in Listed event behind Dubawi Gold and doesn’t seem like he’ll be suited by this new trip.

Tlaad: Well-spoken of colt who is entered in Dante and St James's Palace Stakes, but will be something special to win this on debut.

VERDICT: The Paddyman is the pick on form but he’s a little exposed and this new trip might not suit. This is a fast track for GLEN’S DIAMOND but he looked like he could hold his own at this level when winning latest and can get the better of the aforementioned horse, Maqaraat & Laajooj
