Chester May Meeting - Ormonde Stakes

2.55 Chester
Boodles Diamond Ormonde Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1)  (4YO plus)
Winner £36,900

Pick: St Nicholas Abbey (win)

Allied Powers: Won the Prix H’edouville & Grand Prix De Paris, not disgraced and not up to Group 1 company afterwards; Respectable run on first appearance this season but would still want more cut in the ground.

Chink Of Light: Third in Chester Vase here last season; Not in same form on two run since, beaten long way in Queen’s Vase and then shaped as if amiss in big Goodwood handicap.

Harris Tweed: Progressive front runner thoughought 2010, winning big Musselbrugh handicap with plenty to spare before taking two listed races (one here) last twice; Should be very hard to beat here.

St Nicholas Abbey: Looked set for big things at two, having shown great turn of foot to land Racing Post Trophy; Only sixth as evens favourite in 2,000 Guineas but many things against him that day and top class form in any case; Beaten as far as two furlongs out on return but long layoff can be forgiven and worth another chance to prove himself.

Fanditha: Managed to complete a double off a mark of 85 on the AW at Lingfield but this completely different and masses more needed.

VERDICT: It could play to give ST NICHOLAS ABBEY another chance. He’s surely going to strip much fitter for his comeback run and his stable have sent out three winners from three runners this week. He can get the better of Harris Tweed.
