Qatar Bloodstock Dahlia Stakes 2012

2.35 Newmarket
Qatar Bloodstock Dahlia Stakes (Fillies' Group 3) (Class 1)  (4YO plus)
Winner £31,190

Advice: 1 pt win Timepiece (6/4 general)

Owner detailsIzzi Top: Full of promise on only run at two and looked well on way to bigger things when taking Windsor maiden with minimum of fuss; Mooted for classic after that but unable to find an answer to Dorcas Lane in the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket she proved herself a horse of the highest quality when third in good renewal of the Oaks, before winning Saint Cloud Group 3 in France; Big chance on return here.

Owner detailsCaptivator: 5 but lightly raced for it and career best by some way when beating progressive Law Of The Range (reopposes here) at Kempton on AW latest; This a fair bit tougher and wouldn’t want the ground to be too soft if it’s not dried out, but deserves some respect and should come on for the run.

Owner detailsKawlah: One of the best – if not the best – horses in the field based on her UAE Oaks/Derby double at Meydan when beating Master Of Hounds and Mahbooba with something in hand at the end despite only winning by a nose; That form looks very solid and exciting prospect for the future despite her injury layoff; If back and ready to run has major shout.

Owner detailsLaw Of The Range: Very progressive last season, landing Ascot handicap of 82 before going onto win Listed event and ending up with rating of 103 after Oak Tree Stakes third; Only just beaten by Captivator in Listed AW Race at Kempton and should be close between the pair again but does have stamina to prove and would want rattling quick ground.

Owner detailsPrimevre: Closely matched with Law Of The Rage on a short head second to Soorah at Ascot(soft ground) but getting weight from her that day and makes little appeal despite her listed win afterwards.

Owner detailsSos Brilliante: Outclassed in Sandown Group 3 just a few days ago and needs much more.

Owner detailsTimepiece: Had always shown promise but really built on it big time last season, posting solid efforts on first two starts before landing listed race and then shock win in Falmouth Stakes when aided by very slow pace; That form flatters her but held head high after that though with third in Prix Rotschild and second in Prix Jean Romanet; That makes her one to beat.

VERDICT: A good renewal. TIMEPIECE is very flattered by her Group 1 win in the Falmouth Stakes but her two efforts after that confirm that she’s a high class sort and her first time out efforts in the Middleton last year seems strong enough form in this context. Izzi Top, third in the Oaks before then winning a Group 3 at Saint Cloud on soft ground, which is helpful in today’s context. UAE Oaks third Kawlah has more than enough talent to win this if straight enough but she’s been off for 407 days and this will take some doing.
