Fielden Stakes

4.45 Newmarket
Blue Square Feilden Stakes (Listed) (Class 1)  (3YO only)
Winner £22,708

Black Snowflake: Comes here fit from Dubai but vulnerable to less-exposed types, some of whom have better form already anyway.

Fighter Boy: Untouched when winning a maiden at Wolverhampton but this is a much sterner test and he was racing against vastly inferior opposition; Jamie Spencer a notable booking though.

Mufarra: Should be capable of more than his last success (getting off the mark at the third attempt as a 2 year old) but Richard Hills has picked Rumoush instead of her and she may be the one from the owner to look at; Also has to improve.

Prizefighting: Highly promising winner at Kempton on debut who shaped well when fifth in 1m Group 1 Criterium at Saint-Cloud just 6 days later; That race may have come too soon, he will like the ground more and the he drops 3 grades today.

Stags Leap: Probably just needed the run when fourth in 1¼m Lingfield handicap on reappearance but his previous form gives him a lot of work to do on that basis.

Gallic Star: Wouldn’t be far away based on her May Hill fourth (a race that has produced a Group 1 winner) and her other efforts are decent enough for the Grade; Others have more scope to progress though.

Timepiece: Shaped really well on her first 2 starts and was made Oaks favourite on back of her listed win over 1m; Has continued to shorten for that race and is sure to go well, as she’ll like the extra furlong compared to last time.

Marie De Medici: Posted a good effort to come runner – up in a Group 3 at Deauville after her maiden win; Then good fourth but well behind Timepiece; 3lbs better off with her and sure to be fit after a listed fourth at Saint Cloud, but work to do.

Rumoush: Impeccably-bred filly (half-sister to Ghanaati and Mawatheeq) who made a  promising winning debut over 1m at Lingfield last November; Hasn’t run since and lots of potential, but she is a breeding based proposition as she takes on some very useful horses.

VERDICT: Another highlight at Newmarket as we get to see Oaks favourite TIMEPIECE make her classic season debut. It’s also very interesting that she runs against colts as well. PRIZEFIGHTING makes a lot of appeal as an alternative, dropping 3 grades from his last start, where he could have reappeared too son, not to mention the fact that he might like the ground more.
