Racing Today - 2nd October 2010

Sales’s races and 2 year olds, in the autumn of tricky ground. Sounds like Saw II for punters, but there’s plenty of form and potential on show and it’s worth a go.

No wonder bookmakers profits are falling when they will only pay 3 places on the 20 runner 300,000 Tattersalls Millions 2yo Fillies' Trophy but hopefully the only place we’ll be worrying about is first. I’m taking a rather big chance on TOGETHER handling soft ground and getting over her exertion in the Fillies Mile but if she does, then she should be very hard to beat. Nothing in her pedigree suggest soft will trouble her. 7/1 about I LOVE ME is a very good price taking into account the fact that she won a sales race on debut, and there must be more to come on only her second run, so she gets the vote.

Things are rather less simple in the £500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2yo Trophy, with the form horse having never run well over this trip, a fact that may be exaggerated by ground conditions today. Janood will find this easier than the National Stakes but that was the only time he’s raced on soft, Fury was backed as if showing plenty at home ahead of winning his maiden, while Measuring Time also is worth a mention. FACTUM’S best form is at further than this trip but a lot more is in his favour, Firstly, he’s got a good draw, and secondly, he should be able to handle soft ground based on his run last time which also stands pretty well in form, the winner having only been beaten a head by Pathfork. The one horse hat seems sure to handle the ground, STATE OPERA, is well worth an each/way play.

In the Totesport Cambrigeshire, I’ll go for ABSINTHE each/way as he matches a lot of trends.

Over at Redcar, LADIES ARE FOREVER is extremely well treated by the terms of this contest and will take all the beating if cherry-ripe on her first outing since Royal Ascot. I’ve said a lot and been proven right to some extent about how shocking the Queen Mary was as a race, but she’s receiving weight from everything in the race and can’t honestly muck this up, can she? If she does, DINGLE VIEW is the one to take advantage in my mind.

Recommendations:

Together to win the 1.55 Newmarket (7/4), I Love Me each/way in the 1.55 Newmarket (8/1)

Factum and State Opera each/way in the 2.25 Newmarket (14/1 & 8/1)

Absinthe each/way in the Cambridgeshire (3.40 Newmarket, 12/1 general)

Ladies Are Forever in the 3.20 Redcar (3/1)
