Saturday 4th December 2010 - Interlull Betting

With jump racing off, you’d think that it’d be best to swerve the AW. However, with no jump racing until at least Wednesday and Thursday, I can’t keep away forever.

Credit must be given to Southwell, Kempton, Wolverhampton and Dundalk for getting their meetings on, and with some C4 racing, maybe it’s worth a poke for interest’s sake.

It’s hard to separate a lot of the horses at all of the meetings, and the 3.25 at Southwell is no exception. This is a significant drop in grade for RED JADE, who catches the eye having run sixth behind Salden Licht two starts ago before running in the November Handicap. It’s his AW debut but a relishing for soft ground augurs well for Fibresand and he could well be on the premises here.

The improving horse in the 2.25 is Shostakovich who has won two of his last three starts and should like the return to this trip. However he is 15lbs higher than for his last win and can be taken on here. STYLE AND PANACHE chased home a subsequent listed race winner on her only previous run at Southwell back in March and could be up to defying top weight off a fair mark with her stable emerging from a quiet spell.

Kempton is fiercely competitive and the best opportunity may be in the 3.40, probably the best race of the day. I’d be seriously interested in Angel’s Pursuit at this level but steps up in trip and that is a big question mark for me. He hasn't given the impression he's definitely going to get seven furlongs. The favourite is Arteus who’s got everything to suit but can be taken on in such an event with close rivals Seek The Fair Land and Autumn Blades having every chance. Mia’s Boy looks well treated and shaped with plenty of promise at Wolverhampton last time, while Autumn Blades wasn’t disgraced at listed level last time. I just can’t leave STREET POWER alone given that he’s 6-8 here and 16/1 in places is too big. REJEEF was improving rapidly for Clive Brittain and would be right at the head of the market if he was in his early season form, which is entirely possible given that he has had a comeback run for David Simcock.
