1 pt win Master Of The Game, 2.30 Exeter
It says a lot about the quality of Exeter’s card tomorrow
that despite an 8AM inspection with freezing temperatures, the fixture actually
sold out a couple of days beforehand.
Not only are there high class main events, but the two
novice hurdles that open also look strong or the grade. Nicky Henderson has
kept a vicelike grip on these kind of races this season with the likes of
Tetlami, Simonsig, Top Of The Range, Hadrian’s Approach and Hit The Headlines,
and his Master Of The Game may be a bet to bounce back from his disappointing show
when favourite for a strong novice hurdle at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.
A £78,000 purchase from Ireland after winning his last point
by 7 lengths on the bridle at Loughrea, he was well backed for his debut at
Cheltenham and was still in there pitching after travelling well for a good
while, in a race that was won impressively by the solid Barabtos and had horses
such as Hard To Swallow, Forgotten Gold, Battonier and One Term, all of whom had
a solid level of form, or have at least boosted that form since.
With that behind him, expect him to prove much fitter this
time round and in what could possibly be called an easier assignment – it certainly
seems that way compared to the first – he should have a puncher’s chance of
giving the Henderson stable yet another win.
