2.05 Doncaster
One Call Insurance Champagne Stakes (Group 2) (Colts &
Geldings) (Class 1) (2yo)
Advice: 1 pt win Entifiaadha (5/4 VC Bet)
Red Duke: No improvement required on fairly strong
debut when winning maiden at Redcar but impressive in Superlative Stakes and unlucky
not to win again at Glorious Goodwood, when blocked
for any sort of run; Should
go well in bid for compensation.
Al Khan: Travelled well within himself before drawing right
away for a clear success at here, and that form has been boosted
convincingly since by top 5; Poor run in Acomb Stakes (behind winner, who reopposes) but folly to dismiss him out of hand given small field.
Daddy Longlegs: Overcame very poor start at inexperience to
win going away at Gowran in the end, and should improve once again although
that form not worked out and this is a far tougher task.
Entifhaadha: Most taking debut boosted by the unlucky third
winning a Listed race with something to spare and followed that up with Acomb
Stakes win, drawing clear without much effort; Likely to step up again here if
small field isn’t a problem.
Trumpet Major: Has shown himself to be better than his Royal
Ascot form suggests with short head second to National Stakes favourite Talwar;
Hard to recommend based on his previous efforts although better ground should
help.
VERDICT: Expect a bold bid from Red Duke to gain some much
deserved compensation for his luckless run at Glorious Goodwood, but in Daddy
Longlegs and ENTIFAHAADHA he faces a couple of very smart colts to whom he must
give 3lbs.
