1.55 Doncaster
Japan Racing Association Sceptre Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies
& Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+) Winner £29,600
Advice: 1 pt win Chachamaidee (7/2 general)
Chachamaidee: Good sort; Has found new level of form this
year for being fitted with a hood, coming a good second in the Windsor Forest
Stakes at Royal Ascot and ran out a really easy winner of competitive looking
Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood latest; 3lbs penalty makes things tougher but very
big chance in any case.
Dever Dream: Failed to show her progression on first two
starts this season (found trouble in running) but much more like it when second
to Chachamaidee (weighted to reverse form) and unlucky last time around, but
needs more to win here (superiority of winner at Goodwood not in doubt).
Flambeau: Scorched clear of her field when making all and
coming home unopposed in listed event on return but unable to repeat trick in
Group 3 company, eventually coming home a well beaten second; Last run forgiven
but might not be as good as she had looked previously.
Jacqueline Quest: Finally back to some sort of form when second
to Libranno last time out, although suspicion that she will always be flattered
by her Guineas “win”; Could go well but others preferred and possible attitude
problem based on way she was outbattled.
Magic Eye: Reliable performer in native Germany, winning 4
times in listed company and has done well again this season but too exposed,
held by several.
Off Chance: Run creditably in several fillies races and was
beaten by a strong bunch of fillies last time out, but might want a longer trip
and this race no easier in any case.
Seta: Always shown potential from day 1 but never turned
that into a win at anything higher than group level, having won 3 times at
Listed level; Spurned an easier opportunity than this last time and despite
drop in trip, one or too should prove too strong.
Rimth: Very fast 2yo who showed she’d trained on when a
clear cut winner of Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury, and probably didn’t get
home in French 1,000 Guineas; Run well in trying circumstances since but others
present more solid options.
Alanza: Has fulfilled promise of 2yo win this season over
more suitable distance (today’s) the last twice with pair of impressive wins,
doing well to get up last time out; Form been franked and should take the
beating here.
Crying Lightening: Taken awfully long time to come to hand
this year in Dubai after promising juvenile campaign in which she finished
respectable second to White Moonstone; Had a long break since she came second
to Barefoot Lady and may not be ready to fire on all cylinders.
Marvada: Actually got the better of Alanza early on this
season but that form been well reversed since at longer trip; Drop down to 7
ought to help her today but needs more than that to place even.
VERDICT: Alanza’s progression may continue but it’s
impossible to desert CHACHAMAIDEE after an easy win in the Oak Tree Stakes last
time. Granted, a good draw was extremely helpful in that, but she looked a
class above and can win again here, with Seta having something to prove and
Dever Dream looking held on form despite having not had the best of runs on more than one occasion of late.
